Prototype to Batch Industrial Cutting Machines by Contracts Engineering Limited (CEL)

Client Background:  Our client is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of industrial cutting and grinding equipment for the telecom and photovoltaic renewables industries. They do all design, testing, assembly and certification in-house and require a reliable supplier for their metalwork.  Our client’s machines are shipped around the world, making quality assurance a critical factor for them.

Client Brief:  Our client secured one of their largest ever orders from a US based mobile telecom company.  Their end client required several dozen machines to grind and polish the touchscreen element of their products for a new American manufacturing site.  Our client need rapid prototypes to prove their accuracy and suitability, and then they needed to hit a very aggressive timeline for the production roll-out.



CEL Solution:  We pride ourselves on supporting rapid prototyping to volume or batch manufacture, making us the ideal partner for our client on this production run.  We worked on a nearly daily basis on the metalwork elements while they worked through full specification design.  We then provided one-offs of the two designs in a 5wk lead time and agreed a weekly delivery schedule once productions commenced.  We hit every date and played a small role in making their delivery a success!  


Materials used: 304 grade stainless steel, carbon steel SHS, carbon steel sheet and machined parts

Processes used:  laser cutting, stainless steel TIG welding, carbon steel MIG welding, folding, polishing, some mechanical assembly and powder coating of the carbon steel parts
